Lipid Profile & Cholesterol Panel
Definition: A comprehensive blood test measuring circulating lipids and lipoproteins to assess 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk.
More details
Measures several lipid fractions after an 8-12 hour fast:
- Total Cholesterol: Desirable <200 mg/dL; Borderline 200-239 mg/dL; High ≥240 mg/dL.
- Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL-C): The primary atherogenic particle. Optimal <100 mg/dL; Very high risk patients target <70 mg/dL or <55 mg/dL.
- High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL-C): Protective "good" cholesterol. Men >40 mg/dL; Women >50 mg/dL.
- Triglycerides: Normal <150 mg/dL; Borderline 150-199 mg/dL; High 200-499 mg/dL; Very high ≥500 mg/dL (pancreatitis risk).
